Trudy is an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Accredited Nutritionist with the Dietitians Association of Australia. Trudy is also a member of the American Dietetic Association. She has more than 30 years experience in weight and health management, and nutrition research and teaching.
Trudy is an expert in portion control and food serve sizes. In 2005, Trudy produced a world-first book packed full of life-size photos of correct food serves for ages 14 years or more. She won a prestigious award for this first food serve guide. Her clients asked for a kid's version of this book. After five years of comprehensive research, design and testing, Trudy has produced a bright and parent-friendly guide about kid-size food portions for ages 4 to 13 years. Now she shares it with the world at KidsFoodTalk. This second book is also an award winner.
In July 2011, Trudy closed her clinics to focus on developing resources that would help more people than could ever get to see her personally. Through her private business, the Wesley Nutrition Centre, Trudy also consults with food industry and other corporate clients. FoodTalk was founded in 1993. Kids FoodTalk spotlights the nutrition of our young ones.
For more than 15 years, she hosted a popular Queensland state-wide radio nutrition talkback show for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and is a frequent media commentator about nutrition issues.
Trudy's professional qualifications include Bachelor of Science, Graduate Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics, and Graduate Diploma in Communication.
Trudy's contribution to dietetics in Australia has been recognised with prestigious awards from her professional association, the DAA, and include a National Service Award (1990), the Barbara Chester Memorial Prize for Innovation (1997), the President's Award for Innovation in Memory of Josephine Rogers (2005), and Membership Loyalty Award (2006). Her second book "this=that child size" won Silver and was Highly Commended at the Australian Food Media Awards 2010.
Oh, and Trudy has two wonderful grandchildren aged 8 and 4 so she's not only in touch with solving the everyday food concerns of her many clients, but she also still deals with them first hand!
